you’re dancing like you’re mine

for the girls I’ve loved

For Sylvia, with her laugh like abalone, with her warm warm skin. Thank you for teaching me how to dance with my voice, for filling my dreams with starlight and my eyes with your golden calves.

For Sara, with her eyes like depths, with her hair like raw silk. Thank you for laughing with me and filling my heart with feelings I wouldn’t recognize until years later.

For Sophia, with her dancing dark eyes, with her lips like sliced peach. Thank you for the hesitation in your voice, for afternoons at coffee shops, for all of it.

For the girls I may love someday- thank you for the hope that you may someday exist.
